If there were one piece of wisdom Alex Baril could impart, it’d be this: always keep moving. The NYC-based fitness trainer specializing in corrective exercise and combat sports harps on the risks of a sedentary lifestyle, finding new and fun ways to keep clients in movement and on their toes. But Baril doesn’t stop at training – outside the gym, he heads up a fledgling company called E.P.I.C. (Elite Performance Integrated Clothing), specializing in advanced fitness apparel. We caught up with Baril to hear about his path to personal training, his tips for those just getting their start in the field, and more about the exciting fitness products he’s working on developing.

What do you do on your spare time?
I spend all of my spear time either boxing competitively or further developing The Go Trainer, a self navigated resistance suit used by professional athletes in all sports.
Do you have a motto or mantra that you live by?
Trust your process is probably one of my favorite mantras mainly because it is common for us to measure progress or success based on what is happening around us when we should look within ourselves to set measurable and attainable goals.
What’s one tip you’d give someone who’s looking to go independent and start their own business?
Continuing education is the strongpoint that I would drive home to anyone looking to pursue any independently driven endeavor. It’s important to know as much as you can about your industry as things are always changing and new opportunities are always arising, acquiring the knowledge gives you the best chance to monetize from these new developments.
