Having been curious about art, fashion and beauty since childhood, Ami Chibana was set on pursuing a career that would allow her to explore these creative industries. Now as a reputable Hair Stylist, Ami can express her artistic side by creating new hair styles for her wide array of clients. Ami tells us about her path to success from when she started in Tokyo to where she’s now living her dream in NYC.
How long have you been working as a professional Hair Stylist?
When did you decide that this is what you want to do full-time, for a living? How did you come to that decision?
What do you love about being a Hair Stylist?
What’s been one of the most memorable or proudest moments in your career so far?
What’s the toughest part about being a hair stylist?
I’ve never felt that being a hair stylist is tough.
What is your ultimate professional dream?
My final goal is to make my own hair products brand. I would love to use the money to bring beauty education, and products to underserved people around the world. I really believe that bringing beauty, or a sense of beauty, to people makes their life more peaceful.
Do you have a signature haircut that you’re known for or do you have a favorite haircut that you like to give?
I love all types of haircuts, but recently I like a texture bob. I think the most important part of a haircut is that it fits their body and face.
If you could bring only one beauty item with you on a trip, what would it be?
Do you have a favorite motto or mantra you live by?
Your vision becomes your future.
What is one tip you’d give someone who’s just starting out their career as a Hair Stylist?
Just watch every moment of how other stylists work. You can learn from everybody on the floor every single moment. Watch and steal!
